If you know me, you know I am not a spontaneous person. Not even a little bit. I like having things planned way in advance so I have plenty of time to prepare. My brother and sister in law, however, are the complete opposite. They are the most spontaneous people I know! A few months ago, Karlie proposed a Florida weekend beach trip to me and our friend Kendi. She asked on Wednesday..... and someway... somehow.... I was booking us all an airbnb for that upcoming Friday. WHO AM I?? That gave us less than two days to plan, prep, grocery shop, and pack for our trip! Even just thinking back on it gives me a little anxiety hahaha. But as soon as I put that non-refundable airbnb purchase on my card, our spontaneous weekend beach trip was a go.
That Friday afternoon we packed up the goods, loaded the kids, and met up so we could caravan down together. It ended up being about a 5 1/2 hour drive with three cars, six adults, a five year old, two toddlers, an infant, and a chick-fil-a pit stop. To my surprise, it was pretty smooth sailing. Brielle slept most of the drive and Ryan & Karlie let Emmett ride with them for half the trip which he and they and we loved haha. We ended up driving straight to the beach and got there riiiiiight as the sun was setting. IT WAS SO PRETTY. The water was crystal clear and the white sand was soft and squeaky. These grainy iphone pictures don't do it justice at all.
We didn't realize when we briefly planned our trip that we were going at the absolute perfect time. Apparently early March is where it's at! The weather was sunny, but not hot. We had the beach almost completely to ourselves. The airbnb was brand new and didn't have any bookings or reviews, so we got it for a STEAL. Aaaand this happened pre-pandemic, so I think it was just meant to be. I'm really glad we were able to make it happen! Spontaneity definitely paid off.
My perfect, sleepy girl.
This was Emmett's first time at the beach and he LOVED it. It is so fun watching him experience new things! The seagulls and the sand kept him entertained for hours. It was Brielle's first time too, but she snoozed through most of it ;)
^^ Our cute airbnb.
One night we kept accidentally setting of the smoke alarm while making dinner. Not sure who thought it was a good idea to put a smoke detector right above the oven?? Anyways, a fire truck ended up driving by shortly after and the little boys lost their minds haha. They all ran outside to watch. The firemen waved, turned on the truck lights, and sounded the siren for them. I don't think I've ever seen Emmett so excited!! It was cute and so much fun. When the kids went to bed, the adults played games, snacked, and stayed up waaay too late. It was the best of times.
The beach bikes were a fun airbnb perk! We loved cruising around town on them.
Alright, get ready for a picture dump because this is taking me too long to finish and I've got things to do!!!
Okay I'm ready to go back. Spontaneous trip round two, anyone? ;)

That sand and beach are beautiful!! I'm so glad to you got to do something fun before getting cooped up for months. I agree - it's the best to see your kids experience new things. Yay for being spontaneous!!
