Hudson

Meet Hudson Thomas.
Born May 25th, 2023.
6 lbs 11 oz 19 in

He is perfect. And growing way too fast! But before I get ahead of myself, let's back up to the day we met our huddy boy. Jason and I checked in to the hospital around 2:15 pm and they quickly got me hooked up and the epidural going. Everyone there thought this was going to be a quiiiick delivery considering I was already 6-7 cm dilated. The anesthesiologist even gave me a spinal block to be nice, so I was numb numb. My contractions still hadn't picked up much at that point so they started me on the lowest dose of pitocin. That got them going and by 6:30 pm I was 9 cm dilated. My nurse kept telling me how much the amniotic sac was bulging and she was shocked it hadn't burst on its own yet. We waited for what felt like forever for Dr. England to get there to break my water. I was so sure that once he did baby boy was going to slide right out. The doctor arrived around 6:50. He broke my water and things started to... slow down. It turns out the bulging sac was causing me to be as dilated as I was. Once it was ruptured I actually went back to 7 cm and my contractions slowed down enough for the doctor to leave the hospital!! UGH.

The nurse raised my bed and put me in a sitting position in hopes it would help the baby's positioning. I sat like that for about thirty minutes and nothing happened. After that attempt they wanted to put me in another position on my side. It is not easy trying to reposition yourself when the lower half of your body is completely numb haha. Two sweet nurses helped roll me on my side and put a peanut ball between my legs to open things up more. I laid like that for maybe two minutes and BOOM. Instant pressure. His head dropped right into place and he was ready to come out. It's too bad we didn't try that position first because we had to wait fifteen minutes for the doctor to come back before I could push :,) I don't think I've ever felt that much pressure during my other deliveries. I was nervous I wasn't going to be able to keep him in! I squeezed Jason's hand as hard as I could with each passing contraction. As soon as the doctor got there I pushed two times through one contraction and out came Hudson at 8:02 pm. Jason cut the cord and I immediately snuggled our boy on my chest. It was absolute heaven.

My parents came by that night with some very excited siblings. Emmett and Brielle could not wait to meet their baby brother!! They got to the hospital right as I was transferring rooms so the kids got to ride on the bed with me through the halls. It was the sweetest thing seeing my babies meet each other for the first time.

They are OBSESSED. I loved having our whole family together and seeing their sweet interactions. I also loved the quiet that came after the kids headed out. For the first time in a long time I felt completely at peace. I didn't need to be anywhere or do anything. I didn't have a mile long to-do list or any obligations in that moment. I wasn't stressing about the kids, I knew they were being taken care of. Instead it was just me soaking up my tiny, sleepy boy in a quiet hospital room.

Still can't believe we're a family of FIVE.

We reaaaallllly wanted to leave the hospital after one night. We waited and waited to hear if Hudson passed all his tests so we could go home. Right as I gave up hope and got settled to go to sleep for the night, the nurse came in to finally discharge us around 10:30 pm. Hallelujah. We had to bring Hudson back for a hearing test the next morning, but even with the extra trip it wasn't worth another ten hours laying in that hospital bed.

We made it home right before midnight and walked in to the sweetest surprise.

My mom is the best.

Back to the hospital for Hudson's hearing test. He passed with flying colors.

After that we got a bite to eat, picked up my prescriptions, I napped with Hud, and Jason hit the gym before picking up the kids on his way home. I appreciate my parents SO MUCH. It really is such a blessing living close to them. Emmett and Brielle were so excited to show Hudson his new house and all the decorations they helped put up the night before. I melted when I saw what Emmett wrote on the chalkboard. He is the sweetest big brother.

Brielle was more than ready for her role as big sister!

He is SO loved and the absolute perfect addition.
Welcome to the family, Hudson!
